"KCLU Memories"

by Stephanie Angelini

My son was born four days after KCLU went live on the air. Less than a month later, general manager Mary Olson had me into the station to do a live interview about my theatre conservatory that was just opening and was about to perform in January 1995 at the Civic Arts Plaza. My son came in his stroller and slept through the entire interview.

Over the years since October 1994, Mary Olson and I have seen each other at various events around the region.

Still working in theatre and only four months ago, I found out about a fund-raising position at KCLU. When you work in theatre you are always fundraising and by now, I was qualified, so I applied for the job.

Somebody must have made a mistake because they hired me! I started exactly two months ago today.

And the first thing Mary Olson said to me was, "I remember when you came in to interview just when we opened and you brought your tiny son."

P.S. I love my job.
