Basic Function
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct, the Coordinator for Residence Life is responsible for promoting a sense of community and an environment for personal growth in the residence halls by coordinating, implementing and evaluating operational aspects of the Residence Life Program. Additionally, the Coordinator for Residence Life is responsible for creating and developing an effective living-learning environment for California Lutheran University’s residential complexes. The primary function of this position is to direct and oversee the operations of the residence hall(s) including: staffing, student development, student judicial affairs, training and educating, administrative and managerial responsibilities, facilities management, and professional development.
Representative Duties
• Provides oversight of Resident Assistant recruitment, selection, training, on-going training, supervision, and evaluation. E
• Facilitates ongoing assessment of Residence Life training, programming, and operating procedures as it relates to Resident Assistants and Graduate Resident Directors. E
• Participates and assists in the selection, professional development, supervision, on-going training and annual retreat of Graduate Resident Directors. E
• Attends to periodic on-call responsibilities for the campus on nights and weekends. E
• Assists with: crisis intervention, stabilizing situations, investigating and resolving matters of significance that deal with student concerns and coordinating the notification of the appropriate college officials/referral agencies in accordance with university policies, guidelines and professional judgment while exercising discretion. E
• Serves in carrying out university and community standards related to the residence halls. E
• Participates in overall Student Conduct program and facilitates administrative hearings to resolve conduct cases with students on an individual basis. E
• Develops, disseminates, interprets, and enforces campus regulations. E
• Maintains accurate records of student judicial appointments and outcomes. E
• Serves as an advisor to the University Hearing Board. E
• Provides guidance and referrals to individual residential students. E
• Handles disputes and grievances. E
• Maintains accurate records regarding residents, facilities and budget. E
• Assists with the process of selecting and assigning suites. E
• Assists with opening and closing all residence halls. E
• Facilitates avenues of communication with students by maintaining visibility, availability, and approachability. E
• Develops partnership with parents in locating appropriate resources, services, and support for students. E
• Maintains and updates Residence Life website. E
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Contributes to overall goals of program development and service to students as a member of the Student Life staff. E
• Serves as active participant in Residence Life, Student Life, Student Affairs, and university community as a whole. E
• Serves as a positive role model for students. E
• Addresses concerns and assists with student and staff needs through being readily available in a live-in capacity, including evenings and weekends as needed. E
• Provides leadership on projects as assigned. E
• Assists students and staff with academic, personal, social, and health issues. E
• Ensures appropriate referrals are made to various campus offices and personnel as well as off-campus support services. E
• Supports division wide projects and programs, such as, but not limited to: Homecoming Week, New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, Preview Days, and Admitted Student Day. E
• Serves on campus wide and Student Affairs-related committees as needed. E
• Serves as department liaison with other areas of the University. E
• Participates in campus crisis response, as appropriate. E

Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or related field is required. A minimum of two years of experience in Residence Life, Housing Services and/or Student Conduct is required. Directly related graduate assistantship/internship experience in student development, leadership and activities will be considered. Consideration will be given to candidates completing master’s degree by August 2013.
