Red Rock Into Las Vegas

Andyi Maruca

Red sliced mountains
Flower out of canyons
Born out of the wonder
Of god
The interpretation we use to explain
To label and tag
The naked snake bodied head
Frowns a plea to visionless travelers
To silence themselves
Or walk away loudly
As long as the direction
Is away…

Steps are offered for the subservient sort
Like the half paid wench
Tired and bored,
Two bucks away frombecoming a whore
Who sees these tear streamed mountains
And becomes a woman again
Teras of frustration for an altered foundation
That we always
Insist we left alone.
But the sand is white darlin
And my body is red
That dust did not stem from me
My life, my face, my skin
I am not the whole of my color
But the color of my whole
Is my title and privilege
Because once you lose your village
Mine is reborn slightly altered, slightly shorn
But still the seesnce of me

Taking without keeping
Is not stealing from the rest
It is just surviving until the test
Of our worthwhile temptations.
And my dear son, my side is as hollow
As the town I'll soon adhere to
But the rest of this rock
Is harder clay than god's hands could mold.
And stick somewhere classic.
