A Dream of Faustus

Siana-Lea Gildard

I want to talk to the serpent
eat from the tree
I'm tired of waiting
I see a little more of Eden in myself than I thought possible
I may be more jaded

Faustus is in my dreams

I have to ask myself
if after all my searching
I would sell my soul
Become a vendor
call Lucifer to me
and beg
Him
To let me do what I want
to let me rest from this searching

Faustus is in my dreams

Gluttony and Lechery surround me with their claims
tempt me
Mephastophilis is always in my head
reminding me I am always in hell
They loom near
invite me to a feast of flesh

Faustus is in my dreams

I see the distortion
the horror of that roasting flesh
sizzling
I see rib cages
It's a human form
my flesh
my soul
Burning when I give in to rest

And Faustus smiles

He knows me too well
he sees I am tired of wishing
dreaming
waiting
and he introduces me to his friends
I lean to shake their hands
and wake.
