Harvest Moon

Susan Voss

The darkness was calm.
I sat on the beach by the lake.
The waves did not crash,
But gently floated onto shore.
And the sand was penetrating.
Ice cold of moisture.
I plunged my hands
Through the smooth powder
And felt its intensity.
The lights of the city behind me.
The grey black sky before me.
I looked straight above
And saw the harvest moon.
Brightest of the year.
It kept me in a trance,
As it illuminated the sky,
Its light spread throughout,
Seemingly like the sun.
It empowered me
In its pure whiteness,
Drawing me into it.
Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright.
On this very precious night,
I experienced the harvest moon.
Its intrigue, the intensity.
Tonight, I will sleep in heavenly peace.
