Standing On The Streets Of Leningrad

Darcy Culley

No city ever looked so dark and cold
In light of day or shadow pale of night.
No buildings ever stood so grimly gray
Cemented to the ground as if in fright.
Do colors graced the streets except for red
Which splashed the fronts of walls and murals there
With faces stern and stiff as winter skies
As icy winds froze each and every stare.
I shuddered at the thought of life so bleak.
Inside a city trapped inside a hell
Of somber statues staring silently
Entrancing all who dwelt there with their spell.
And I was thankful for the life I had
while standing on the streets of Leningrad.
