Seasons

Kim Delledonne

Sprinkling showers cleanse the air
    and form a refreshing breeze,
birds are flying overhead
    and perching in the trees,
the flowers meant to bloom in April
    finally show in May,
and I lie with my mother
    on a blue, newborn day.

Water glints off ocean waves,
    mirroring the sun,
children frolic free from parents,
    having childrens' fun,
the air is still, a humid warmth
    has settled on the bay,
and I sit with my lover
    on a yellow, lazy day.

A brisk wind rises, tossing leaves
    which mingle with the rain,
coats and sweaters stored last March
    are now pulled out again,
school has started, children jump
    in puddles along the way,
and I sit with my family
    on a golden, chilly day.

The wind is blowing forceful gales
of hail and snow and sleet,
the coldness penetrates my head,
my hands, my legs, my feet,
the grass has died, the trees are bare
    the leaves have blown away,
and I sit all alone here
on a grey and barren day.
