Mis Jackson

Ia Jean Kragthorpe

Slender she was, no, - skinny, and frail;
so tiny and frail,
But
With always a smile.
And how she loved her pets! Deliberating carefully each week
which cat-food to buy,
or which for dogs,
she placed cans and packages carefully,
even pensively,
in the grocery cart.
"Afternoon, Mis Jackson."
The check-out boy always paid her special attention. "You sure do have the luckiest pets in town, maam."
And he placed her bag
in her small red wagon,
for the trek home.
Week after week.
And the months made a year.
Imagine everyones astonishment when the ambulance arrived and they tried to revive her..
"No Pets," read the sign. Nor had there been any.
