The Rules Changed

Some girls can wear baseball caps
down over their brows
soft and freckled
with long straight hair in ponytails
so it doesn't get in the way.
They follow the boys,
lead the boys,
and make the boys mad
by running faster
and playing harder
and they're popular.
But then the rules change
when some girls' breasts appear
and hips,
because most boys don't want to play football with girls that wear bras
but aren't soft,
and nobody wants to race
because things jiggle,
barely,
and it's embarrassing.
So girls that were prissy
are popular in their perfume
because boys want to snap bras
and think of their contents
or future contents
hopefully.
Some girls can wear baseball caps
down low over their brows
and curve the bill
so that it's gently rounded
like a half moon
but they're forgotten
or given up
at least temporarily
when the rules change.
