(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Oct. 14, 2009) California Lutheran University will dedicate its newest residence hall at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23.

The public is invited to join CLU's Board of Regents, Convocators and other distinguished guests at the dedication of Trinity Hall.

"In this, our 50th anniversary year, the Regents and I look forward to celebrating both the opening of this signature building and the contributions of all those who made it possible," said President Chris Kimball.

Trinity Hall has two fully equipped classrooms, a reflection of the national live/study and live/work trend in building. The $16.5 million residence hall is also the university's first to include some six-bedroom suites and studio apartments. The 83,000-square-foot hall is the second largest facility on campus, coming in behind the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center.

The hall is already filled with 220 upperclass students. It has alleviated overcrowding that had led to five students living in four-bedroom suites during the last few years.

The inclusion of classrooms is one of the building's many sustainability features. In addition, the parking lot has permeable paving that allows storm water to filter through it and a treatment unit, removing contaminants before they reach public waterways. Heating and air conditioning systems have a central control system and shut off when a window is opened. All of the appliances are energy efficient. A gray water collection system infrastructure in the building will eventually allow sink, shower and laundry wastewater to be used for irrigation after treatment.

The new residence hall is part of CLU's growing commitment to sustainable building. The Swenson Center for Academic Excellence, which is currently in construction, will be the campus' first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)-certified building when it opens in 2010.
