I fell in love with street art while studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Working with Dr. Fiore, I decided to focus on Latinas making street art in Los Angeles. This art form is male-dominated, but a small number of women are demonstrating incredible power in their craft. I wanted to meet these women, assess how their work was being received by their male counterparts, and learn how their involvement in this art form aided in the development of their self-identities. There is very little scholarly work being done in this area, so my project was the first of its kind.

Spanish
My travel seminar Treasures of Peru, taught by Dr. Fiore and Dr. Claussen, was one of the greatest experiences of my life. The opportunity to learn the Peruvian dialect was an indispensable experience in helping me understand Spanish as a living language while refining what I had learned in the classroom at Cal Lutheran. I now have a more holistic view of what it means to be a Spanish learner and how my major intersects with culture and people, going beyond language.

Theatre Arts
Part of my goal as a professor and mentor, in helping students discover their purpose, is to nurture their interests. Because theatre is comprised of so many different areas, sub-disciplines and specializations, it's important to help the students discover their passion and desire within the industry. That may mean encouraging them to investigate a class they may not have chosen to take on their own or exposing them to another area within theatre where you can see an interest in.
