To me, research and teaching are variations on the same theme: educating students. I view my research with students as an extension of the classroom. More student research means more opportunity to provide a better educational experience.

I think the biggest inspiration I’ve received from a class here was Computer Graphics with Dr. Reinhart. We utilized Linear Algebra tricks to perform some pretty cool graphical manipulations. The math and programming behind them required time and patience, but it was very worth while.

Mathematics
The best moment in a math project comes when you finally understand why a technique or line of reasoning works after a long struggle with the idea. Encouraging a student to persevere and then giving them a high-five for resolving the difficulty is one of my highlights of working with student researchers.
