Art
In the actual doing or making of art, encouraging students to experiment usually leads them to choosing content motivated by distinct interests. What they care about becomes clear as they invest time, materials and themselves—therefore, the creative process serves as a catalyst for personal transformation, assisting the self to purpose.

Criminology and Criminal Justice
In Introduction to Criminal Justice, we had the opportunity to tour Ventura County Jail, which completely shaped my opinions on corrections. The ‘Procedural Law’ class with Professor Oakman helped me understand our laws and court systems. Professor Oakman gave us the opportunity to watch a case live and it put into context everything we learned in the classroom.

Political Science
I’ve always been drawn to community engagement, empowerment and service, so I study political science because it has fundamental roots in community development. Cal Lutheran’s program takes students into the field and also makes studying abroad very doable.
