When mentoring students in research projects, it’s the beyond-the-classroom context that allows creating a long-term collaborative relationship between the students and me. So, I can wear the many different hats of a teacher to support the students and share a greater perspective on the significance of their projects with them.

Global Studies
Global studies has enabled me to look at the interrelations of societies from an objective point of view. As a freshman, I decided I wanted my college career to truly be a “global study” immersion. I studied abroad for three semesters in Costa Rica, Chile, Thailand, and participated on a travel seminar to Cuba. Being able to study and live the effects of globalization in both western and eastern cultures has inspired me to further my understanding of this phenomenon.

The “El Eco” class piqued my interest because it develops Spanish writing and speaking skills in a creative way. The most rewarding outcome of this class has been gaining confidence in my speaking skills. In class, we are always encouraged to speak whether or not it is perfect content or grammar-wise. This environment has helped me with speaking more because it forces me to stop over-analyzing what I am saying. I want to work in the education field, so being able to communicate in Spanish is extremely beneficial.
