A special thank you to the ASCLU Senate for granting us over $7,000 to lower the cost of the trip for all participants!

Information regarding travel grants and Student Trip Leader positions can be found below.

Travel during spring break and experience a new culture... Serving on an ASB is a unique way to offer your time and skills-- and it's a lot of fun!

This year, we traveled to El Salvador!

Quick Facts on the Trip:

March 28th - April 5th, 2015

Travel outside of the US to learn about a new culture and help provide a sustainable service project that will help the community long after we leave.

Trip cost: Thrivent members - $1,622; Non-Thrivent members - $1,972

This price includes flights, in-country travel, in-country food, housing, and a donation to the organization/ building materials. There is a discount for Thrivent members, as reflected above, because the trip is partnered with Thrivent Builds Worldwide.

Please note that ASCLU Senate has granted us over $7,000 towards the cost of this trip, which will reduce the price from what is listed here.

We have grants you can apply for to help reduce your costs. See below for additional information. The Senate money does not restrict your ability to apply for grants.

There are plenty of concerns when traveling abroad in a developing nation, but we take many safety precautions before and during the trip. Please visit the participant info page (link at the top of this page) under "Travel Precautions" to see the measures we take to ensure a very safe experience abroad.

Grant and Student Trip Leader Information

If you are interested in the trip but are worried about cost, grants will be available through a supplemental application.

The travel grant application is now included in the general Student Participant Application.

Student Trip Leaders:

Student Trip Leaders (STLs) will plan and lead each trip alongside staff. The Alternative Break Student Trip Leaders act as a liaison to the host site, and coordinate both pre- and post-break activities.  You and your co-leader will coordinate aspects of the trip including reflection activities and nighttime activities if applicable. You may also be requested to assist with other duties. You will have staff supervisors (CSC Coordinator, Campus Pastor, CSC student intern) who will support you along the way and assist as needed. STLs will receive a discount on the trip and are still eligible to apply for a grant.

The STL application is now included in the general Student Participant Application.
