This crude model was created by the authors by inserting an A-form DNA double helix into the binding cleft of HIV-RT using the Hyperchem molecular modeling program. This model is not as accurate as that of Kohlstaedt, et al. (1992). Jacobo-Molina, et al. (1993) have determined the structure of DNA/RT complexes in crystals; they observe that near A-form DNA double helices are bent so as to conform to the binding cleft of HIV-RT as predicted by Kohlstaedt, et al. (1992).
