Definitions:

Atherosclerosis An arteriosclerosis characterized by the deposition of fatty substances in, and fibrosis of, the inner layer of the arteries.

Arteriosclerosis A chronic disease characterized by abnormal thickening and hardening of the arterial walls.

Thrombus: A solid mass (clot) of blood elements formed within a blood vessel or chamber of the heart.

Embolus: A detached intravascular mass (can be gas, liquid, or solid) which travels through the vascular system to lodge at a distant site.

Aneurysm or Aneurism: a sac formed by the expansion of the wall of a vein or artery.
