Andrew Barber '96

Andrew Barber excelled as a pitcher for the California Lutheran University baseball team from 1994 through 1996. As a sophomore, he tossed a seven-inning perfect game in a 32-0 win over Caltech on Feb. 12, 1994. He pitched another game for the ages during his senior year with a no-hitter against Whittier College on March 2, 1996.

In the West Regional against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, he struck out 15 batters and, at the College World Series, he pitched a total of 17 innings in two games over a four-day period. Barber put together two historical streaks on the mound at CLU: 17 innings pitched without a hit allowed and 28 innings pitched without allowing a run.

In 1996 he was honored as a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-American Third Team and was named to the ABCA All-West First Team and the All-SCIAC First Team.

After his brilliant career at CLU where he tossed 177.2 innings and racked up 156 strikeouts, he went on to play with Major League Baseball’s Colorado Rockies.
