The Cal Lutheran Experience

I think it’s important for students to have the opportunity to see the faculty perform. They become aware of what goes into performance: repertory selection, planning, rehearsal, and, most important, practice. This becomes part of the culture they inhabit and a model for what is necessary for success in the arts.

I’ve always been interested in what drives people to make certain decisions and act in particular ways. By understanding the driving forces, I believe that it is much easier to be sympathetic and tolerant toward everyone, even when you don’t agree with them. I love Cal Lutheran’s supportive and encouraging psychology professors who were instrumental in helping me get into a doctoral program.

My scholarship and creative work as a director and playwright helps to bring my students into close contact with the world of professional theatre. They can then make informed choices about whether they wish to pursue their own theatrical ambitions.
