Our students enjoy learning about, understanding and participating in the whole discovery process: how information in our textbooks and on the internet is generated. That process has to be holistic and we try to have students participate in the classroom, in discussion with peers and faculty, through research in the laboratory and out in the field, as well as learning what role in that process they will enjoy in their careers.

Studying abroad in Berlin was incredible because I was able to witness first-hand the culture and language that I had been learning about for so many years. Some of the highlights were being able to study at a German university, travel around Europe, and live with a host family. I came back to Cal Lutheran with a better understanding of my place in the world, eager to continue my studies in German with a new perspective.

During my research, I created quantum simulations to observe the behavior and characteristics of the superconductive material strontium ruthenate. Something exciting I learned in the process was how this material behaves unconventionally compared to other known superconductors by exhibiting half-flux states.
