The Cal Lutheran Experience

Communication

I think one of the most important tools in helping students discover and live their purpose is getting them to understand not to take their experiences for granted. In teaching critical thinking, we often privilege this action as questioning but it can be a part of the creative process, too. As the British writer Neil Gaiman said, 'You can take for granted that people know more or less what a street, a shop, a beach, a sky, an oak tree look like. Tell them what makes this one different.'

As a Multimedia major with a graphic design emphasis, I loved my Typography class. I enjoyed getting to know the ins and outs of fonts, typefaces, and all the details that come with creating with words. This knowledge has been impactful on every project I’ve worked on within my major.

Spanish

The “El Eco” class has greatly increased my confidence in Spanish speaking and writing. After conducting interviews and writing articles, I really believed in myself and abilities. Plus, having a Spanish article that I wrote is an impressive example I can show feature employers. This class has taught me that Spanish goes way beyond the classroom.
