About the Center

The Center for Academic Service-Learning's primary purpose is to educate, support, and provide resources that further the goals of academic service-learning, including in the creation, integration, or expansion of service-learning within an academic course.

The Center for Academic Service-Learning achieves this through the support of academic service-learning courses and/or programs that:

  • Provide training and resources, including professional development workshops for faculty;
  • Enhance academic learning by enabling students to apply knowledge and skills gained through academic study and critical reflection;
  • Guide students to discover and live their purpose with real-world learning experiences;
  • Empower undergraduate and graduate students across all disciplines for a lifetime of service and civic engagement;
  • Develop and strengthen sustainable reciprocal partnerships between the university and community, including with non-profits, and the public and private sectors;
  • Educate and broaden awareness of local, regional, domestic, and global social problems through our community partnerships;
  • Cultivate a distinctive educational culture that recognizes and celebrates service at CLU
