For a Girl I Never Knew
Nicole Biergiel
What sort of buzzing, blinding fear
(I can't imagine)
Could hold you through to
toss the rope,
listen to it
rasp against the branch and
plop beside you on the ground
tie the knot, a loop measured to fit your sadness.
What sort of deep, devouring loneliness
(I can't imagine)
Accompanied you as you
pulled the stiff, scratchy savior around you,
subconsciously breathed a piney last breath and
silence
stepped out over a velvety unknown with more appeal
than existence
I can't imagine
