Tonight I am lonely,
Three ghosts my only company.
I did not invite them,
They just stopped by to tell me of
some unfinished business I have yet to settle
But once they were inside, I felt obligated
To offer them each a cup of coffee.
I make great coffee— Now
they don't want to leave.
Ghost number one is reminding me that
I forgot to say goodbye to someone I once loved.
Number two hounds me
About an apology I never accepted.
Three has her eyes set on my ex-lover
And wants to know when it will be all right
To start seeing him.
I am secretly praying that they will leave,
But they have no intention of doing so.
Number two just suggested they all spend the night.
I don't figure I'll sleep well.
