Papa I remember
Becky Platts
Papa I remember
when you took me to the beach
your strong hand holding mine.
When we walked along the soft sand
for the first time.
When you said to me,
"Look Becky, the sea never ends!"
And I gazed at the crystal shiny waters
and looked deep into the sea.
Papa I remember
the nitty gritty sand
trapped in my fingernails.
And the hot blazing sun
beating upon my blonde curls.
The deep blue waves were crashing onto the shore.
In a circular motion they lifted and collapsed
sliding the white foamy bubbles up the shoreline.
Papa I remember
The sea gurgled and splashed
and upon the silken wave
the greenish yellow seaweed floated.
The wave retreated, drifting back into the sea
leaving behind the tangly seaweed.
Papa I remember
the splashes and droplets being tossed in the air.
The waves circled and crashed
over and over.
The roaring water was growing louder.
And then came the white foam racing towards my feet
and just as I was about to scream
Papa I remember,
You rescued me
Lifting me high above the sea
and that white fuzzy foam tickling your toes
not mine
Papa......I remember.
