An Old-Fashioned Poem
Jerilyn Johnson Frei
If I were born apoet true
All natures beauty to review
Melodic verse at my command
In language muses understand
The earth would floriously unveil
Her sacred hills where Nyades dwell
And neptunes kingdom 'neath the sea
Would shar eits Letheran mystery,
The stars wiykd vecjib "Let us, too,
Reveal our secret selves to you,"
Diana's moon perchance to hear
Would whisper in my willing ear,
"Come psyche, on your winged way"
you've so much to learn from us today
for since you're born with poem's heart,
we'll teach you fair athena's art,
calliope will be your guide
set free the verse, they would have cried
a oets soul cant be denied.
Then musicaly yet magically
In lyric sentiments, with glee
I'd paint the heavens in sweet rhme,
The constellations tale enshire
And once again in ecstacy
Restore appolo's dynasty
As in the days of poets lore,
Those magic tragic days of yore
When laurels crowned the artists head
And kings the minstrels verses read.
Soft ballad, sonnet, hymn and psalm
The weary sightless shepherds balm,
Tiyr sweet syllabic poets praise
Inspired dull souls of yesterdays
Now were I such a poet blessed,
In pallas court an honored guest
Perchance a muse would dwell within
To rulle my soul to reign again.
O'er gentle minds through poets pen.
