Guardians
Lois Sheli Atkinson
The ocean guards bygone years
A beast with vast flanks of rippling jade
Sultry and slinking in the fog
The foam and aplatter of thirsty waves
Whimper and wind, gull songs,
Stir my dreams mix remembrances
Reflection is birthed within the juices
Swell and breach of tidal surge
Doubloon and jeweled cross,
Kelp and carcass
Licked clean by salty depths
Crashing surf pounces once and again
Old hurts and rage now dead,
Dragged down to cold and mystery
Rhythmically breaking into sand
Of mesmerizing me
With glimpses and glints
Of souvenirs.
Redfood forest guards the here and now,
A sleep giantess with cradling roots
Dark shredded skin
Wanton strands of mossy hair
Among the veils and tatters of leaves
You brew tonic for lifes chronic aches
Among the veils and tatters of leaves
Musty fungi lichen, and berry
Penetrate with healing aromas
And salve for a healing soul!
No lovers lingering touch
Revives like those caresses
Or soothes with breezy lullabies
Swirling and swaying in robust branches
Far above the cloaked hush
Of greenwoods loam.
Midnight sky guards the future
A star speckled bird of deepest blue
Hovering quills taut down sleeked
Breast expanded for cleansing breaths
Her eager eyes dart al directions
Talons tremble with prescience,
Outstretched wings fan my worried face
Soon cooing preening cosseting
And watchful waiting stops
Then she soars unimagibly high
Through distances immeasurable
Guilt, pretensions, slights, regrets
Recede until the eath itself
Flying
With heart open
Is all.
