Frog Voices

Denise Elizabeth Ricks

The frog voices seemed to harmonize.
They sang as if they knew.
They sounded as if they understood
What is obvious to only a few.

It was as if they were listening.
But how could they hear what was said?
Their own sound was so overwhelming.
Among the frog voices, all else seemed dead.

Still they listened to every solemn line.
They hung on every word and meaning.
It was such an extraordinary sensation.
I could have sworn I was dreaming.

Did.they understand our purpose?
Did they know why we were there?
Alas,; the only answers given us
Echoed in the frog voices that filled the air.
