Love
Jon B. Fleming
Two roses growing in a garden,
twisting into one,
both leaf and limb entwined,
holdng fast in the morning sun.
Who dare disturb the lovers
in their passionate embrace?
Locked thorn to thorn in wonder,
What intruder could they face?
The housewife in her kitchen
spied the roses in their bloom
and came with thoughts of brightening
her tasteful living room.
Seeing but the one that matched
her carpet's lively hue,
she was determined there and then
to separate the two.
The gentle lovers would not give way
they tightened their embrace
and found themselves together
in the housewife's silver vase.
