Gilbert: In Memoriam
Margaret Wold
They put Gilbert's coffin in our parlor;
there were lots of roses in the room.
Grandma covered the mirrors with sheets.
She said if we didn't we would always see
Gilbert's coffin in them.
When my grandmother wasn't around,
I took the sheets off.
But I never saw the coffin
when I looked in our mirrors.
I only see Gilbert when I smell roses.
