Think of the Fly
Bill Kennington
Dedicated to Marty, Jim, Lance, John H., Art and John R.
Think of the fly
It is now in my hand
Think of the hippo
As it soaks in the pond
Think of the lion
Do you see much pride?
Think of the leopard
And why does it hide
Notice the giraffe
Some see much grace
Beware of the rhino
With a stubborn old face
Glance at the wildebeast
One like the other
They stand with the zebra
Like best friend and brother
Scream with the monkeys
And see how they laugh
At the shifty strong warthog
That stands guard at its path
Jump high with gazelle
As they clear the way
Watch as the kite
With your food flys away
Spy on the vulture
As it picks at a treat
Gape at hyena
While they search for meat
Peek at the fox
As it plays in the grass
Mimic the donkey
it thinks you're an ass
Gaze at the cow
As its herded along
Respect a big elephant
As it trumpets its song
Smile at the lizard
And watch how it moves
Feel sorry for the dog
As it searches for food
They all observe us
In their African land
Think of the fly
It flew out of my hand
