On the Road
Danika Dinsmore
Driving quickly (denying)
What used to be white stucco . . .
Crumbling walls with
Clothesline horizons and dirty faces
with suspicious eyes.
A single cow grazes slowly
Through the brown,
Tumbleweed infested lawn,
And three-wheeled vehicles,
Long given up to spiders and scorpions,
rust quietly in their perspective driveways.
Across the highway,
White water crashes below.
Grey rocks appear and disappear
With soothing movement.
It is said the scenery is beautiful,
On the way to Ensenada.
