Holden
Gordon Cheesewright
The talk quiets, the songs slowly hush
as night darkens through this village and our brief life.
We center down,
hunker and gather round the slow fire, caught within and without
by that dark.
We hold in, hoping for light,
for a grail or fleece
to sing to us
and choose our way.
