Too Late
Patti Behn
Traces of late afternoon
and hot tea
linger in my hair,
though the sky
is long since black,
and the tea stands
tepid in my cup.
The clock sounds,
and the cars hum below
in the street,
and I wait.
Your tea-cup, too,
waits, half-empty
for your return.
