Lakeside
Patti Behn
Soft calls
shadow the whisper
of evening.
Water-ripples wrinkle
into the shoreline
clicking on rocks
with the rhythm
of crickets.
Cattle, full with the
heaviness of night,
moan beyond boulders,
warm, still, with
the heat of the day.
Random wings deepen
the darkness
in flashes of black,
and a low moon rises
in the pewter-grey
mirror
of water.
