Missing You in Snow
I am still your Sunday girl
reading Peanuts frame by frame
through a donut middle.
Today the air tastes like snow
(they’re saying ten inches in Nebraska).
Snow.
I pulled your coat tighter against the coming cold.
This town has long winters and
my scarf still smells like you.
I count the spaces between the pews.
Twenty-two today.
Twenty last week.
I will sort this out.
Yesterday I sewed one button
Onto your navy coat.
With stiff fingers.
With black thread.
With tiny stitches
crissing and crossing
until I lost them in the fabric.
